Go Bulls!

Page ranking from Google - A great visual approach!

How is Google page ranking working? There are thousands of websites trying to explain the algorithm behind the ranking. If you're good in math, you can even try to have a look at wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PageRank).

Finally I found a great article about ranking with a visualization. Martin Missfeldt on his blog http://www.tagseoblog.com is seeing the following factors:
  • Backlinks
  • Content
  • Authority
  • Trust
  • Reviews
  • Retweets
  • Facebook Shares
  • in some cases: Reviews
As always, visualization makes it so much easier...

SharePoint 2013: Nice to Know

SharePoint 2013 new features and capabilities:
Short introduction video; great merchandise but really just an overview of the new capabilities.

What’s new for developers in SharePoint 2013:
The most important point here are the SharePoint Apps. Just a basic statement from Microsoft, but I guess it's definitively important for a SharePoint Developer:
Apps have no custom code that runs on the SharePoint servers. Instead, all custom logic moves "up" to the cloud or "down" to client computers. Additionally,

SharePoint Designer 2013: What can we expect:
The most important thing here is actually not what we can expect, it's more about what we can't expect to get. It looks like there will be no support for a visual web page editor in SharePoint Designer 2013.

With SharePoint Server 2013 embracing new web standards for client side rendering of pages such as JavaScript, JSON, and OData, there is no longer a need to support a visual web page editor within SharePoint Designer.

Which API Set should you choose?
Great article as a helper between the different API Sets. Namely we can choose between the following sets:

  • Server OM API
  • .NET Client OM API
  • Silverlight Client OM API
  • Mobile Silverlight API
  • JavaScript API
  • REST / OData Endpoints
